Gerard Cervi sentenced to life for murder of Messett

Gerard Cervi has been given a mandatory life sentence for the murder of Robert ‘Bobby’ Messett in 2018.

The 36-year-old man, from East Wall in Dublin, was convicted last week of the murder of Robert ‘Bobby’ Messett at Bray Boxing Club in Co Wicklow more than five years ago.

Mr Messett, an early morning gym-goer, was shot in the head and died after the incident in the early hours of 5 June 2018.

Cervi was found not guilty of the attempted murder of well-known boxing coach Pete Taylor and not guilty of the attempted murder of another man, Ian Britton, who were injured when shots were fired into the club’s crowded gym where an early morning exercise class was taking place.
