France will take on Denmark at Stadium 974 on Saturday in the group stage of the FIFA World Cup 2022. The French looked in great form as they trounced the underwhelming Socceroos side after falling behind by an early goal. Their 4-1 win was aided by a record-equalling brace from Olivier Giroud, now the joint-top scorer in France’s history. Mbappe and Midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
Denmark began their World Cup against a spirited Tunisia team on the 22nd of November and played out a 0-0 draw. However, the Red and Whites will be buoyed before their tie against France on the 25th of September earlier this year, after a convincing 2-0 win over a strong French team in the UEFA Nations League tie this September, at the Parken Stadium, Copenhagen.
Manager Kasper Hjulmund won’t be needing to motivate his Danish team any further than showing them footage from that victory and asking them to replicate the same performance against France. He remarked in his pre-match press conference, “The way they played (against Australia) was also a bit different than the two games we played against them. I have great respect for France, but I also know how strong we are. We’ve tested them a few times.
“This is a new tournament, a bigger tournament. But we know that if we play our very best, we have a chance of getting a good result, and that’s what we’re aiming for. To be able to do that, we have to take a big step forward in the quality from the first match.”
The French have a slight edge over Denmark and have won 8 of their last 16 matches played between each other with Denmark winning the other six. Also, this would be the fourth time they face each other in the group stage of the World Cup – where Les Bleus faced the Danes in 1998 and 2018 and went on to win both the World Cups!
